Welcome to RamblingMiles: A New Beginning

Every photograph has a story, even if it is simply about being in the right place at the right moment. For me, photography has always been closely connected with another favourite pastime: getting outdoors and exploring the landscapes around me.

I'm Miles, a keen rambler and hobbyist photographer with a particular interest in landscapes, nature, wildlife and the quieter corners of Cornwall, Devon and beyond.

A Passion for Photography and the Outdoors

I've always enjoyed being outdoors, whether following a winding coastal path, crossing open moorland, exploring ancient woodland or discovering somewhere I've never visited before.

Photography gives me another reason to stop and appreciate these places. Sometimes it's a sweeping landscape that catches my attention. At other times, it's something much smaller: the texture of weathered stone, sunlight filtering through trees, a wildflower beside the path or an unexpected encounter with wildlife.

I'm particularly drawn to the changing character of familiar landscapes. A place visited on a bright summer morning can look completely different beneath the mist of an autumn afternoon. The light, weather and seasons all play their part, and I've found that returning to somewhere familiar can be just as rewarding as discovering somewhere new.

I don't consider myself a professional photographer, nor do I pretend to have all the answers. Photography is something I enjoy, something I'm continually learning about, and something that encourages me to look a little more closely at the world around me.

Why RamblingMiles?

The idea behind RamblingMiles is simple: to bring together my photographs, walks and experiences in one place.

Over time, I've accumulated photographs of coastlines, countryside, wildlife, historic places and the many interesting details encountered along the way. Rather than leaving them tucked away on a hard drive, I wanted somewhere to share them alongside the experiences and places behind the images.

RamblingMiles is that place.

It's an independent, personal website, created out of enthusiasm for photography, walking and the natural world. There are no grand ambitions to turn it into a business. It's simply a space to share what interests me and, hopefully, encourage others to appreciate the places around them.

What You'll Find Here

Photography will naturally be at the heart of RamblingMiles, but I hope the website will become more than just a collection of images.

You'll find photographs of landscapes, nature and wildlife, together with occasional blog posts about the places I've visited, things I've discovered and experiences along the way.

I'll also be sharing some of my rambles, including walking routes, photographs and observations from the journey. Cornwall and Devon will feature prominently, particularly their coastlines, moorlands and countryside, although my explorations won't necessarily stop there.

I also have an interest in local history, especially the stories and traces of the past that are still visible in the landscape. Old mining remains, forgotten pathways and historic buildings often provide as much interest as the scenery surrounding them.

There won't be a rigid publishing schedule. I'll add new material as and when I have something worth sharing.

The Journey Begins

One of the things I enjoy most about photography is that there's always something new to discover. You don't necessarily need to travel far or visit somewhere spectacular. Sometimes the most interesting subjects are found in places you've walked past countless times before.

That's really what I hope RamblingMiles will reflect: the enjoyment of being outdoors, the curiosity to explore and the pleasure of capturing a little of what makes each place special.

If you've found your way here, thank you for visiting. I hope you'll enjoy browsing the photographs, following my rambles and perhaps discovering somewhere that inspires you to head outdoors with a camera of your own.

For now, welcome to RamblingMiles.
