Bottoms Up

Two fluffy lambs graze among pink sea thrift near Kelsey Head, Cornwall, their backs turned to the camera in a playful springtime scene.
Spring brings a wonderful burst of life to the Cornish countryside, with new lambs appearing in the fields just as the coastal wildflowers begin to bloom.
On this May morning, I came across two young lambs happily grazing amongst a scattering of delicate pink sea thrift flowers on the north Cornish coast.
With their heads buried in the grass and their fluffy little backsides pointing towards the camera, the pair seemed far more interested in finding something tasty to eat than posing for a photograph.
Their soft, cream-coloured fleeces stood out beautifully against the fresh green grass, while the little clusters of pink flowers added a lovely splash of colour to the scene.
I was particularly drawn to the gentle humour of the moment. Rather than trying to capture the lambs looking towards the camera, I rather liked the way they were completely absorbed in their breakfast.
The soft background and scattered wildflowers give the photograph a peaceful, almost pastoral atmosphere, capturing a simple moment of life in the countryside.
For me, photographs like this are a reminder that nature and countryside photography needn't always be about dramatic landscapes or extraordinary wildlife encounters.
