Low golden sunlight sweeps across the cliffs above Trebarwith Strand, contrasting with the cool blue Atlantic and coastline fading into the distance.

High above Trebarwith Strand, near Tintagel on Cornwall's rugged northern coast, the landscape opens out to reveal a sweeping view of rocky cliffs, sheltered coves and the Atlantic stretching into the distance.

Photographed in April 2025, I was drawn to the way the low sunlight illuminated the exposed cliffs, bringing out the warm ochre and golden tones of the weathered rock. The grassy slopes and coastal vegetation caught the light beautifully, while the deeper shadows added contrast and revealed the contours of the landscape.

Below, the sea appeared remarkably peaceful, its muted blue surface providing a gentle contrast to the rugged coastline. Beyond the nearest headland, the cliffs gradually faded into the soft haze, creating a wonderful sense of distance.

The South West Coast Path follows this dramatic stretch of coastline, offering ever-changing views as it winds above the steep cliffs and rocky inlets. Looking out across the water, it's easy to appreciate the extraordinary beauty of this part of North Cornwall.

For me, this photograph captures one of my favourite qualities of coastal photography: the way a familiar landscape can be transformed by the changing light.

As the sun drops lower, the colours become warmer, the shadows grow longer and the cliffs take on a completely different character. Sometimes, all you need is a beautiful stretch of coastline and a little golden light.
