Warm sunlight catches the granite rocks of Belstone Tor, with a patchwork of fields, hedgerows and woodland stretching into the distance.

From the rocky slopes of Belstone Tor, the landscape opens out to reveal a wonderful view across the rolling countryside beyond Dartmoor's northern edge.

In the foreground, weathered granite outcrops rise from the rough moorland grasses, their rugged surfaces catching the warm sunlight. Beyond them, a patchwork of green fields, hedgerows and small woodlands stretches towards the distant horizon, where the countryside gradually disappears into the summer haze.

Photographed in July 2013, I was particularly drawn to the contrast between the wild, rocky character of the tor and the softer, cultivated landscape below. The low-angled sunlight brings out the textures of the granite and casts long shadows across the fields, revealing the gentle contours of the Devon countryside.

The great slabs of granite provide a strong foreground, their distinctive shapes framing the wider landscape and giving a sense of height and perspective.

One of the things I enjoy most about exploring Dartmoor is the variety of landscapes it offers. From the exposed granite tors and open moorland, it's often possible to look out across miles of farmland, wooded valleys and scattered villages.

For me, this photograph captures that meeting of two landscapes, where the rugged beauty of Dartmoor gives way to the quieter, greener countryside beyond.
